The Eagle and Coyote

The eagle walked on fire in a in a land called Viet Nam.

Many coo he did count ‘till the Devil played his hand.

Held captive by an enemy who’s tortures to endure . . .

‘Till the Great Spirit interceded Then held captive for no more.

The eagle’s body broken, though the spirit longed to soar.

He fought to gain his way back on a far off foreign shore.

The eagle’s heart was empty . . . so he took another’s hand.

Not knowing her heart was poisoned on her hand he placed a golden band.

The eagle’s heart was broken her pain he would survive.

She left him for another his children by his side.

The walk of fire not easy, the eagle began again.

Thirty long years of torture the eagle did withstand.

Searching for another to give a love he could not hide.

Then he met another so he took her for his bride.

Not knowing her heart was evil her love for another he could not abide.

Her heart she saved for Satan a bottle by her side.

Seduced by the love of a bottle to the amber liquid she did turn.

The pipe and the white power the lesson she cannot learn.

To own and manipulate to imprison him she did try to poison and defile him with a lover’s lie.

Purified in the old ways the eagle’s heart was pure.

Through the pain and loneliness this too, he would endure.

So pen he put to paper, and wept his tears in song.

Then one day it did happen . . .

The coyote came along.

In the old ways coyote’s heart was pure.

This coyote showed him love as she wiped away a tear.

He put his wings around her, he found a love that would endure

he kissed her and said I love you, and knew he has lost all fear.

For fifty long years he suffered the story of his life,

Until his heart was pure to be worthy to take coyote for his wife.

With joy in his heart the eagle now earthly bound.

Given up the freedom that once he did abound

His heart now full with gladness his coyote always around.

Then her heart was broken The day Karla came to town.

The coyote once soared with eagles her spirit once was free.

Forever she will love the eagle. I know, the eagle is you the coyote, she is me.
